    Achievements:

After nearly three years since chartering, Sigma Pi has made great strides in terms of recruitment and leadership but has had trouble gaining recognition on campus. This term was the turning point. Brothers put out all of their energy and efforts towards winning awards from philanthropies and from the university in the name of the Fraternity. This term alone we’ve won AXO’s softball philanthropy, Diamond Days, and won Greek Week put on by University Fraternity and Sorority Life. Winning these events has earned us our first ever trophies for the house!

Greek Week is the most prestigious competition you can win on campus and we won it! Greek Week is a competition where fraternities and sororities are put on a team and compete throughout the week against all of the other fraternities and sororities on campus! Competitions this year included a hot dog eating contest (won by our Mr. Greek representative, Andrew Robb), a relay race ending in a chocolate slip ‘n’ slide, a clothing drive (which us Sigma Pi’s and our lovely Greek Week partners, Kappa Delta, together brought in over 2,000 clothes, winning the clothes drive), and of course, the main event, a talent show. To see the mix of swing dancing, Greek mythology, Aladdin, Pac-man, and togas, that won us our talent show and our Greek Week Championship, please visit our website at www.sigmapioregon.com! On top of that we have initiated 20 members this year, putting our total member count at 63.

    Scholarship

We have just raised our minimum member GPA from a 2.7 to a 2.85 (our current accumulative GPA is a 2.92). We’ve realized that if we want to get better, there is no better way to get there than to raise the bar. We were 11th in grades out of our entire Fraternity System.

Tim Dundon, our former First Counselor has received the Best Senior Of Greek Life Award, Tim Taylor, our former Sage, has received the Dean’s Service Award from the University of Oregon, and our Vice President Darby Beltran has received the Excellence Award from Office of Mulitcultural and Academic Successes. Aside from participation in fraternal events, these Brothers have truly shown what the effects of helping out a community and education does for other, yourself, and what image that brings to Sigma Pi. Thank you and congratulations gentlemen!

    In the Fraternity

On May 23rd Sigma Pi teamed up with the UO Men’s Center, for the second year in a row, to put on the Break The Cycle 5K to break the cycle of violence. Here at the University of Oregon we have a Week of Awareness but no other fraternity has actually put on an event where they work with an organization to better the cause. This year we attended a workshop where we discussed the types of abuse on campus, how it affects us, and what we can do to help prevent it. We are looking forward to doing this every year with the UO Men’s Center because we believe it is an important cause and reflects our creed.

We recently held our 3rd annual Pigskin Classic philanthropy where we hosted a football tournament where sororities and fraternities went head to head for the Pigskin Classic Championship. All proceeds went towards Willamette Pop Warner.

    Seniors

This is the first time in Sigma Pi Iota-Epsilon history that members of four years are graduating.  Although it is sad to see some of our Founding Fathers leave, it gives us a chance to look back at all the hard work that they put in for the house, that resulted in a kind of Brotherhood and memories that will last a lifetime and will continue to positively impact Sigma Pi’s for generations to come. Thank you to all of you seniors, for your commitment to the Fraternity and the road you paved for us!
